HISTORY: My best ‘barn find’ !!!
I had heard rumours of a nearly-new DS that had been immobilised for decades near to Beziers. In 2007, I was told that the car was kept in a petrol service station in Bedarieux. I then contacted the owner Mr Reynaud, a fuel trader for BP. This was his 3rd new DS, but it was not for sale or even for viewing. I sent him a letter expressing my interest in his DS but it remained unanswered, as well as my annual telephone calls. In 2016, his daughter called me as a result of my letter. She informed me of the death of her father and that her mother had been taken into care. A meeting was arranged, and on opening the garage doors, she found the DS still decorated with the ribbons from her wedding day, 41 years earlier! The 6th september 1975 was therefore the date the car was last used. I had to wait a further 2 years to arrange the final removal from the garage. Whilst cleaning the car, I found in the glovebox a small map hand-drawn by the owner marking the 'Place Castellane' (but this one in Marseille)!
